McGehee City Council Minutes
June 12, 2001
The McGehee City Council met in regular session on June 12, 2001 at 5:30 PM.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Mayor Poole, Aldermen:
Mike Rogers, Ricky Lattimore, Linda Hardin, F. H. Gill,
Mrs. Jimmie Perkins, Police Chief Farrell, Fire Chief Allen and City Inspector
Gober.
MINUTES: After the reading of the
May minutes, a motion was made by Alderman Hardin, seconded by Alderman
Perkins,to approve as presented Motion Carried.
TREASURY REPORTS: Alderman Gill made the motion to approve the reports presented in the folder, seconded by Alderman Hardin. Motion Carried.
BILLS: After a review of the bills,
Alderman Rogers made the motion to pay all bills, seconded by Alderman Lattimore.
Motion Carried.
OLD AND/OR NEW BUSINESS: A discussion
was held on the non-operating vehicle ordinance. Mayor Poole
appointed a committee comprised of Ricky Lattimore, Linda Hardin and City
Attorney Drake. They are to obtain
information on how our neighbors handle this nuisance. They are also to compare
possible ways to improve our ordinance.
Mayor Poole announced the Municipal League Convention was to be held on June
28 and 29 in Little Rock. Mayor Poole reported on the lawsuit against the
city for the drowning in the city owned pool. Attorney Drake will keep the
council
apprised of the situation. Mayor Poole stated that Eric Plunket was moved
up to head the Street and Sanitation Depts.
POLICE REPORTS: Mayor Poole announced
the Juvenile Detention Center had been closed. All juveniles will go to
Helena, Pine Bluff or Texarkana. There were no questions about the reports.
MOSQUITO CONTROL: Justin Lindley
was present to give the May reports. He explained the recent outbreak of
mosquitoes. He said this was the worst yet and they would do everything possible
to get things under control. The trucks
have not been spraying but would begin that night on routine spraying. He
explained about the larviciding efforts done by
plane.
WATER COMPANY REPORTS: No Questions.
Discussion was held on the old buildings
around town. Kenny Gober stated that the State Inspectors were flying in to
inspect the old city hall and as soon as the report is received then the Department
of Correction would be contacted for
removal. Also discussed was the old gas tanks and what could be done about
them. Alderman Hardin said they were an
eye-sore. Kenny Gober will contact EPA to see who is responsible for the clean
up of removing the underground tanks. Alderman Rogers stated that he had some
calls about the lease law. The dogs are turned out at night. Mayor Poole said
problem should be turned over to Jim Cater. Assistant Chief Young reported
that the pound was full and no one was
adopting pets. A request has been made by Paws and Claws to expand the facility.
Mayor stated that a meeting will be
held by the council members and the Paws and Claws to seek a solution to the
problem. There being no further business,
the meeting was adjourned.
