McGehee City Council Minutes

July 11, 2000

 

The McGehee City Council met in regular session on July 11, 2000 at 5:30 P.M.

MEMBERS PRESENT: Mayor Poole, Aldermen: Mike Rogers, Ricky Lattimore, Al Murphy, F.H. Gill, Mrs. Jimmie Perkins, Police Chief Farrell, Fire Chief Allen and City Inspector Gober .

MINUTES: Alderman Rogers made the motion to approve the minutes as read, seconded by Alderman Lattimore. Motion carried.

TREASURY REPORTS: After a brief review, Alderman Murphy made the motion to accept as presented, seconded by Alderman Gill. Motion carried.

BILLS: Alderman Gill made the motion to pay all bills, seconded by Alderman Murphy. Motion carried.

OLD and/or NEW BUSINESS: Mayor Poole appointed Alderman Al Murphy, Ricky Lattimore and F.H. Gill to serve as a committee to adjust police salaries. Mr. Murphy will serve as chairman. A survey was made of the surrounding cities to determine the adjustments in base pay for certified and non-certified.

Mr. Mike Morgan reported that a fire hydrant was needed in the area of 600 S. 4th. He said that a no water source was a concern in case of a fire. Chief Allen said that the problem did exist because the nearest hydrant was 2 ½ blocks away. He said that water would have to be relayed by truck. Alderman Perkins recommended that the problem be referred to the Water Commission. Mike Rogers reported another problem with a hydrant knocked over. This also will be referred to the Water Commission.

POLICE DEPARTMENT: A discussion was held on the total calls made to the new 911 number since it has been in operation. The number reported totaled 3700. Also discussed was the continuing loose dog problem.

WATER COMPANY REPORTS: No questions.

MOSQUITO CONTROL: Mr. Lemley was present to give the activity report for the month of June. He said that low numbers were held for the month. One aerial application was made during the month and trucks sprayed a total of 26 truck nights. He said that July should be the peak month for a seasonal high.

RESOLUTION 347: RESOLUTION DECLARING CERTAIN PROPERTIES TO BE A NUISANCE. ( 206 Cypress, 504 S. 1st, 408 Lynn St. and 1116 S. 1st).

Alderman Murphy made the motion to adopt Resolution 347, seconded by Alderman Gill. Motion carried.
