McGehee City Council Minutes
February 8, 2000
The McGehee City Council met in regular session on February 8, 2000 at 5:30 P.M.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Mayor Poole, Aldermen: Mark Day, Mike Rogers, Ricky Lattimore, Al Murphy, F.H. Gill, Mrs. Jimmie Perkins, City Attorney Drake, Fire Chief Allen, Street Superintendent Hood and Police Chief Farrell.
MINUTES: After the reading of the January minutes, a motion was made by Alderman Gill to approve as read, seconded by Alderman Day. Motion carried.
TREASURY REPORTS: Alderman Rogers made the motion to approve the reports as presented, seconded by Alderman Gill. Motion carried.
BILLS: After a review of the January bills, Alderman Day made the motion to pay all bills, seconded by Alderman Murphy. Motion carried.
OLD and/or NEW BUSINESS: Mayor Poole expressed appreciation to all for the passage of the sales tax for the hospital. He stated that Attorney Drake was working out all the details and that the tax should be effective as of April 1st. Mayor Poole said that the ambulance service is presently being updated to paramedic. Applications have been taken for a director but to date a selection has not been made. He further stated that the expense of the update would be extensive.
There was some discussion on the transferring of private club permits for Lawson's Restaurant and Leroy Blackman for a beer permit. Chief Farrell said that he had rejected Mr. Blackman's request pending some charges. Mayor Poole reported that the portable building had been purchased for the police department and was in use. There was some discussion pertaining to the Chickasaw Addition. Attorney Drake will work out the details.
POLICE REPORTS: No questions.
WATER COMPANY REPORTS: No questions.
Mayor Poole brought everyone up-to-date on the Great River Bridge. He said a meeting will be held on March 29th in Memphis in which he would be attending.
Some other discussion was held on the census and how important it was.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
